Pre-Fab & Custom Orthotics

Our feet are our foundation. They are there to support the weight of our body all day, every day. Small changes in the way we walk and balance can put the rest of our joints and body under stress. Orthotics are inserts which are worn in your shoes which address changes in our foot posture. Depending on the complaint, what footwear you are wearing and your activity will depend on what orthotic is recommended for you.

If you experience foot, ankle, knee or any lower limb pain while doing activity or after activity, you my benefit from a custom pair of orthotics. Having the foot and ankle in the best possible alignment, will allow all our joints and muscles

to function to their potential and it will also reduce the risk of injury and muscle fatigue and keep you moving stronger and longer.

If you think orthotics may be what you need, book in for an assessment and we will give you honest reliable advice.

Diabetes & High Risk Foot Care

An essential part of Diabetic care is your Foot Health. It is recommended that you have your foot checked by a professional every 12 months.

Patients with Diabetes, Peripheral Neuropathy, Arterial Disease are at risk of developing complications due to poor circulation and neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy can lead to insensitivity so you are unable to distinguish temperature changes or you may not notice a minor cut or wound. If your circulation is also poor, then your body ability to heal the wound and fight infection is reduced and the problem can escalate rapidly leading to ulcers and further issues.

At Hunter Family and Sports Podiatry, we provide a neurovascular assessment of your feet and provide education to the patient on the risks and signs and symptoms to be aware of to maintain good foot health. Reports will also be sent to you GP to ensure you get the best possible care to maintain healthy feet.

Ingrown Toenail Surgery

An ingrown toenail occurs when the nail has pierced or is pressing against the adjacent skin of the toe. The toe can become swollen, red, painful and sometimes infected.

The 2 most common causes of ingrown toenails are

  • External forces - Trauma, dropping something on the toe, poor cutting technique

  • Genetics - They run in your family!!

We will attempt to treat your ingrown toenail conservatively with better cutting techniques and management but if this is unsuccessful then a partial nail avulsion (PNA) will be recommended.

A PNA is a simple procedure which is performed in the clinic under a local anesthetic to remove the offending portion of nail and cauterisation with chemicals to prevent the nail from growing back. The procedure takes under an hour and requires minimal downtime and the pain relief will be almost instant.

Our Podiatrist have over 30 years experience in surgery and the success rate is high.

Plantar Wart Treatment

Plantar Warts or Verrucas are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus and are commonly seen on the bottom of the foot. They are unsightly and painful.

At Hunter Family and Sports podiatry, we treat warts in the most pain-free way possible. We choose to treat the warts with chemicals. We opt for a high concentration of acid which is put on the wart and occluded (dressed to starve the area of oxygen) and allow the wart to breakdown and resolve. This technique will usually require a series of treatments but it will minimise scar tissue formation and prevent reoccurrence.
